Expedition Idaho Update

Just got an update from the RD…here are the highlights:

“Welcome to Bryce Read’s Team Rotten Cheeseburgers, our newest addition! We would also like to say that world champions Team NZ will be racing as Team Seagate! Nathan Fa’ave, Marcel Hagener, Sophi Hart and Nick Ross are going to be a formidable force, so get training! We would also like to welcome Jacky, Mimi and the great LaFuma team from France, and PQ veteran Clifton Lyles and “Back from the Dead!” We are also very excited that Team Sole may be joining us! Paul, Karen and their team are on a tear with top finishes in South America already this season, and we hope to have them confirmed very soon!”

“We are well into the planning for the 2012 race already! If anything, the course will be even more spectacular! Our tentative dates for 2012 are August 12-18, 2012! We hope to be an ARWS event in 2012 as well, so all the more reason to pencil us in!”

“This is a ‘Big Boy’ course, with a ton of variety. As Team Nike’s Gretchen Reeves said this week ‘if it’s anything like the race we did there a couple years ago, it’s going to be killer! The mountain biking there is hands down the best I’ve ridden at an AR, ever!’”

“We’ve had record snow fall and a very cool spring this year, and there is still PLENTY of snow on the course. Lots. At this point, it is conceivable that snowshoes and/or crampons could come into play on some of the north facing alpine segments… we hope that as things warm up it will melt back to “normal” levels. We will keep you informed as we get into July. No matter what, expect to spend a little time on snow… just a question of how deep!”

Expedition Idaho Course Covered in Snow…Should Melt By August

Expedition Idaho is Gaining Momentum

One of the latest expedition races to hit the US adventure racing scene, Expedition Idaho, is barrelling ahead with plans for it’s premiere debut this August. I spoke to race promoter David Adlard about where things stand and he gave me a few gems to pass on:

“We’re thrilled to announce that the newly rebranded, re-energized Gramicci clothing company will be our official lifestyle clothing sponsor, and will be outfitting not only the former Team ASW (Now Team Gramicci) but EVERY racer with pants, shorts, shirts, etc. from their new lifestyle-performance line…a line that I have been asked to help design…lifestyle AR clothes designed by racers for racers. We also are within days of announcing some other major sponsor deals. Suffice it to say this will be the best swag any racer will likely ever receive at an adventure race…$300 to $400 in product…per racer…minimum! Finally, we’ve confirmed that the finish will be square in the middle of Silver Mountain Resort‘s “Brewsfest”, a 1,500 person beer and blues festival, and with the unique “victory lap” finish. Every team will get to finish by running up the chute in the midst of a large, boisterous, cheering crowd.”

David also mentioned that 22 teams have already registered or expressed a commitment to attend the race. Given that it’s just now February and that this all new event is already showing this kind of progress is impressive.

No doubt given another 7 months to work with the scope and grandeur of the inaugural Expedition Idaho will be rivalled only by it’s host state’s majestic scenery.

Expedition Idaho is an Expedition length Checkpoint Tracker event worth 200 points to the winning team.
