WILD RACERS: Tecnu Extreme Adventure Racing

WILD RACERS: What is Adventure Racing?

Pangea Adventure Racing Brings 5 Sanctioned Events to Checkpoint Tracker’s Southeast Region

Pangea Adventure Racing is the #1 producer of this multi-discipline sport in Florida, producing more adventure races than any other promoter in the United States. They’re not just about racing, they’re about adventure…like navigating historic coastal waterways to cycling through the mud to ziplining across the treetops in the moonlight.

Pangea offers an easy crossover for mountain bikers, cyclists, runners, triathletes, water sport enthusiasts and even gym-goers looking for a little outdoor adventure.

In response to the growing interest in Checkpoint Tracker among both amateur and competitive adventure racers, Pangea has opted to expand their involvement by sanctioning 5 of their events for the 2012 season. That means racers in Florida and across the southeast now have even more opportunities to earn points and qualify for the Checkpoint Tracker Championship.

GODZone Adventure Race To Be Filmed For Worldwide Broadcast

New Zealand’s newest adventure race, the Orion Health GODZONE Adventure, being held over Easter 2012, has been chosen as one of six leading expedition races in the world to be filmed for global broadcast.

The very best adventure racing athletes and their teams all vying to win the Adventure Racing World Series Championships for 2012 will be the focus of a new 24 part series to be filmed in HD (high definition). The production company behind the filming is Australian based, Nothin but Shorts, with the series sanctioned by AR World Series Director, Craig Bycroft.

Global broadcasts of the new series will begin on the Outdoor Channel screening throughout Asia from the 1st February, 2012 followed by Fox Sports in Australia and other broadcast partners Qantas In-flight, BSkyB in the UK and Europe, USA and South America.

The first race in the series will showcase the epic XPD Expedition race held in the brutal and remote Tasmanian west coast in Australia late last year.  High performance adventure racing teams are now heading to Ecuador where tropical rain forests and high altitude will test their limits in the Huairasinchi ARW event where filming will occur next.

The Orion Health GODZone Adventure based out of Queenstown will be the third challenge in the series with a chance for domestic and international teams to experience New Zealand’s back country, the original birthplace of adventure racing.

Orion Health GODZone Co-Director, Adam Fairmaid, says the race will not only be filmed as part of the global series but the four half hour episodes will also be broadcast on New Zealand’s Sky Sports Channels.

“This really represents a unique opportunity to show why New Zealand, in some ways, represents the pinnacle of adventure travel. Viewers will watch some of the world’s toughest athletes explore some wonderful locations, and all in glorious HD.

Couple that with a lack of sleep, mental and physical hardship and you have a recipe for compelling viewing. We’re absolutely delighted to be part of the new adventure series.”

The Atmosphere Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race (MOMAR), Cumberland edition, was recently voted ‘Best Adventure Race in Western Canada’ by Get Out There Magazine for the fourth consecutive year.

Every year, Get Out There Magazine, a Canadian-based endurance sports and outdoor recreation publication, asks its readers to vote for the people, places and events that are the best at making active living in Canada so great. In addition to ‘Best Adventure Race’, MOMAR was also voted as having the best post-race party, the best race kit and the best race t-shirt.

MOMAR Director, Bryan Tasaka is thrilled about this honour. “This is really a tribute to all the hard work that gets put into these races,” says Tasaka. “MOMAR staff and volunteers are incredibly dedicated, having a genuine passion for creating top-notch events with a fun, relaxed vibe. We are honoured with these awards, and are beyond grateful for those who took the time to vote.”

The MOMAR is an off road multisport sprint adventure race that requires teams to mountain bike, kayak, trail run, trek, and orienteer through a series of checkpoints over a 30 or 50 km course. The MOMAR series has staged 33 races in British Columbia, Canada over 12 race seasons.
