Here are a few comments we pulled from the blog or were sent via email after the race:

Loving the live coverage! Great work guys!

You all are doing a great job. The Live Coverage is awesome. Thank you!!!

This live coverage and communication is the COOLEST…THING…EVER!!!

To race staff and volunteers…fantastic, timely reporting…I’m on the edge of my seat.

This is pretty cool to follow online…wish I was there.

This site is GREAT…thanks YAK!

Thanks for all the info and updates. Great job.

To Beth and the rest of the update team. You guys have done a great job! It was nice to get up this morning and see that Chris and them had dropped and to also know why! The first few years of web updates either had very few updates, or only updates of people dropping with no explanation. This stuff has come a long way and you guys are really doing a great job this year. Thanks!

You’re doing great with the updates…THANKS!!!

All volunteers…you are doing a wonderful job. The new system is is great for info before, during and after the race. You did it up royal Yak.

I have never been on the edge of my seat watching paint dry like these last 30 hours. What a great way to watch AR across the country. I think the refresh button on my leaderboard is worn out. Thank you to all the people who made this possible. This has been a great way to begin the AR year.

Great event coverage…best I’ve seen yet…good job getting so many
folks linked and communicating…pics, Tweets, etc…Fun to watch.

New Requirement for Earning Points and Being Ranked

Spoiler Alert: We will NOT count points earned by any Squad at any Event if that Squad’s profile is incomplete…meaning Racers have not been assigned to the Squad from the parent Team.

Because the latest incarnation of Checkpoint Tracker came online late last fall without a lot of time to promote it and explain how it works before the first 2010 event…mainly because we’re still building it…we’re in a bit of pickle.

Ideally, we would have required all Teams that all get their Racers signed up and added to their Team profile…then add Events to their Team Schedule…then assign Racers from their Team Roster to the Squad(s) they are sending to each Event…before allowing a Promoter to mark that Squad as Confirmed.

Completed Squad profiles…complete because Racers have been assigned…provide the hook we need to enforce team size limits by Division when we roll up points to generate Rankings.

Well we chose not to enforce that a Squad be complete before a Promoter could mark that Squad as Confirmed because if we hadn’t we’d have had very few Teams to track and then rank.

Ce la vis.

Our plan going forward is as follows:

  1. We will NOT require that a Squad be Complete to be Confirmed by the Event Promoter. This means the burden of completing the Squad profile, thereby ensuring that points earned by the Squad are counted towards the parent Team’s points total, falls to the Team.
  2. We’ve updated the Squad profile page to display Registration Status (Confirmed or Unconfirmed) and whether the Squad profile is Complete or not.
  3. We’ve updated the Rules and FAQ to reflect this new requirement.
  4. We’ll be contacting all Promoters and Racers via email to make sure everyone is aware of this new requirement.

If you have questions please feel free to contact us at admin@checkpointtracker.com.

Race Central Launches This Weekend at the North Georgia Adventure Race

The new version of Race Central will be unveiled this weekend during the North Georgia Adventure Race, the first Checkpoint Tracker event of 2010. The new version features a micro-blog, polls, news alerts, photos and a leaderboard.

Checkpoint Zero is sending two squads to compete and the rest of us will be working a TA on the course. We’ll be posting updates to Race Central via Twitter, serving hot soup and doing our best to stay warm.

Coverage begins during Check In on Friday afternoon:

Teams, Squads and Registration Status

When you add an Event to your Team Schedule a Squad is created. The Squad is associated with the Event and your Team. A Team may send more than one Squad to an Event. Each Squad has a unique name and competes in one Division.

By default the Registration Status of every new Squad created is set to “Pending”. Once you have completed registering for the Event…via an off-site process or through Checkpoint Tracker (when this feature is deployed)…the Event Promoter will log into the site and set the Registration Status for your Squad to “Confirmed”.

If you have completed registration and paid for your entry, but your Squad’s Registration Status remains set on “Pending” then the Event Promoter has not updated Checkpoint Tracker to “Confirm” your registration.
